Experience a CISV International Home-Stay: Six kids + 1 lake = lots of fun!

On Friday July 20th, CISV Ottawa families gathered in Confederation Park to meet up with the kids from the Greenspace Guardians CISV village being held in Pembroke. The kids were easy to spot in their matching green t-shirts, singing happily, full of beans despite a long hot shopping day in Ottawa. Lots of us joined in to the classic energizers including the Pony Song and a new one (to me, anyway) “Alele”, led with panache by the Mexican leader.

In Town and About with CISV’s Doris the Peace Bus

This summer, CISV Peace Bus delegates had whirlwind of tour in Ottawa volunteering with local community environmental groups, meeting up with CISV Ottawa members, and touring our lovely city. Upon arrival, they were greeted with a potluck supper by Billy Shipton, his family, and two of last year’s Peace Bus delegates. It was thrilling to see them all arrive.

Summertime and things are jumping at CISV Ottawa

As the temperatures soar and sizzle this summer, so too are the activities at CISV Ottawa. On July 1st weekend, groups eleven year olds from twelve different countries  began to arrive in Ottawa ready to participate in their first CISV Village in Pembroke, Ontario.

Our family welcomed two bright, lively young men from Ecuador ready to take a bite out of Canada. On their first weekend, they were up for trying maple syrup, maple taffy, poutine, waffles, fishing, go-karting and their first dip in a Canadian lake…let’s just say they found it to be a “refreshing” experience after the warm waters of sunny Ecuador )

Thanks to all for attending! The more the merrier certainly applied for Sunday night's event! How many do you think we were?

Sandy Hill Community Centre's Main Hall was full to the brim, the variety of chili was plentiful and tasty and the delegation skits entertained the audience.

Drum Roll Please…Opening the Envelope

When I was 10 years old, my best friend Hannah did a village with CISV to Sweden and later came to my old school to tell us what it was like and to recommend it. After that, I started thinking this would be cool.

Doris the Peace Bus – A Rotten Sock on Wheels

My name is Louis and during the summer of 2011 I was a participant on the west-to-east peace bus. This was my third CISV experience and I can safely say this program has been the highlight of my time here. I spent a full month cramped into a 14-seater white van with people I started out having next to no relation to. When I stepped off that rotten sock on wheels, I was completely changed.
