CISV Ottawa is hosting a village in July 2020!
A CISV village is a 4-week-long life-changing experience for all those who participate. By helping with any part of a village, you get to share the magic!
When: July 3rd-30th, 2020
Where: the site will be: St John’s Ukrainian Church Camp, Lac Newcombe, near Val-des-Monts.
It’s a real camp with a lake, so the visiting international delegates will get the full Canadian experience with campfires, loons, chipmunks, and mosquitoes! We are excited for this, and we know that CISV Ottawa will pitch in like it always does to make this a great success!
It takes a village to run a village!! We will need help with:
– June & Aug: Laundry! washing all the bedding before and after camp
– June: storage runs to get our material out of storage in Dunrobin, and then to return it
– June 30th – July 3: setup, July 30th-31st, maybe Aug 1st packing up,
During camp July 3rd-30th: help with food runs, accommodation in town for leaders weekend (July 17-19), accommodation & maybe tour guides for leaders’ & JC days off, people to come up to the camp to take care of the kids during Leaders’ Night Out (date TBA), and dinner in town for the leaders on that night as well.
And of course we would love everyone to visit for Open Day (date TBA). We will announce the Open Day when our staff has set the date.

Homestay #2 Fri July 17- Sun July 19th

Police Check: All adults age 18+ who will be in the home overnight with CISV guests will need a Police Check, so please make sure you get and forward us your up-to-date Police Check. If you don’t have it yet, good news, it’s now on-line and quick! However it now costs $20. Make sure to fill out the volunteer form so we can forward you the CISV Ottawa volunteer letter so you can get your police check at reduced cost.
More help!!
Are you a high-school student and experienced CISVer who is awesome, wants to help, and get a ton of volunteer hours?
Volunteer Kitchen Staff!
We need camp kitchen staff! Can you help volunteer for a weekend, a week, 2 weeks or all 4 weeks to help prep, cook and feed our campers? Let us know!
Volunteer Lifeguards!
The camp has a lake so we will need a swimming supervisor to ensure the kids can swim safely. Do you have lifeguard certification or at least Bronze Cross, and could help out for all 4 weeks, 1 week, 2 weeks, a few days? Let us know!
Special Skills – do you know how to teach canoeing? It would be great to get someone to come to the camp to demonstrate and possibly teach some canoeing basics.
Donations! CISV is volunteer-powered, but Villages cost money! We need to pay for renting the camp, buses, food, craft supplies, etc. To make a financial donation, please e-transfer to treasurer@cisvottawa.ca, with a note saying it is a donation for the 2020 village, please say if you want a tax receipt. All donations are eligible for tax receipts because CISV Ottawa is of course a charity!
Do you have any other talent or time you could contribute? We’d love to hear from you!
